The Bible Quilt, 1718 Coverlet and My Di Ford Mystery Quilt

Long time no see.  Well, I blame Facebook.  So many people have left blogger and moved to Facebook because they say it’s an easier format to use.
I think some things about Facebook are easier, like posting photos but to me it doesn’t feel as personal a blog.
I may not have been blogging but I have been busy stitching.

I finally got all the words stitched on my Bible Quilt
 and the  blocks put together.
This is my version of Jan Patek’s pattern.

Harriet Powers made the original quilt which is in the Museum of American History .
You can read all about her quilt HERE.
The Bible Quilt was such a fun quilt to make and I really enjoyed the journey.
I wish I could say the same thing about this next quilt.
The 1718 Coverlet from the book by Susan Briscoe has to be one of the most challenging projects I have ever stitched.  Partly because it has so many little pieces and partly because I am such a terrible piecer
This is my version.  I am so, so happy to be finished with this top.

Maybe if I put it away for a while I will see it with new eyes.

You can read more about the original quilt HERE.

All I have to say about this quilt is What was I Thinking?  Or maybe I wasn’t thinking at all when I decided to make the 1718 Coverlet.

"Di Ford’s Mystery Quilt”
This one I did enjoy making.  It too was challenging but in a different way.
This was my first attempt at Broderie Perse and it has lots of English paper piecing.
I was too late to get in on Homestead Hearth’s BOM so I gathered my own fabrics  Some  from my stash and some I found on the internet.

Now that I am getting some of my projects completed it must be time to look around for something new.
Have you seen the Celebrating Mary Brown Pattern?

It was inspired by the Mary B Brown quilt circa 1851.
The pattern is by Corliss Searcey and is available in the US at Sentimental Stitches.
I hope everyone has been getting a lot of stitching done.
Until the next time,
Nancy

Mountmellick - Di Ford Mystery

I started working on the Di Ford mystery quilt back in September of 2014 along with hundreds of other women.

The almost final border was made of all  these paper pieced stars.  I am not really a big fan of english paper piecing but they had to be made so I decided to order the papers and a template from Paperpieces.com

The papers were great but I was not too happy with the plastic template.  It had too much writing on it making it very difficult to see what you wanted to fussy cut for the center.

The seam allowance was so large it lapped over itself and had to be trimmed wasting fabric and time. I did push on and managed to make all 36 stars.

Now all that's  left is the last little fabric border.  I really love this quilt and am so glad I made it.
It contained two first for me broderie perse  and english paper piecing

Until next time happy stitching.

Di Ford Mystery Quilt

I am so excited to have all the borderie perse stitched on this quilt.  I don’t know if it was this particular fabric or just me but it seemed rather difficult to work with.  It wasn’t like regular chintz but more loosely woven so I had trouble with it raveling.  I was fortunate to have more of the fabric than the people doing the BOM so I was able to have more flowers to choose from and could redo if things went too terribly wrong.

Here she is completed through border number four.

These are the bits for border number five.  Stitching left to do.
From what I have gleaned from the internet the last border, number six is full of English paper pieced stars.
Oh my,  not looking forward to that.

The Di Ford Mystery and Noah & Matilda

I managed to get all the Broderie Perse I could fit into the center block stitched.
I am happier than I thought I would be with the outcome.  It wasn’t the easiest nor the neatest appliqué I have done but it’s finished and I moved on to the circles.  They were much simpler.
I am now stitching on part three...More Broderie Perse. ((:
Noah and Matilda month ten.

Pineapple

                                                                              Cactus Vase

                                                                 Mexican Rose

Such Cute Block patterns.  This quilt just keeps getting better and better.  Only two months (6 blocks) left and we will have all of the blocks.  Lots to do on the borders.
I love Dawns patterns and I think she may be about to launch a new one.
Thanks for stopping by,
Nancy

This and That September

The past month has been a busy one for me.
It was mostly spent with family.
Spending time with the grandchildren and their  families.

Spending time with my DH and his airplane.
Here we are at a gathering in Illinois.  Quite a flight from Georgia.
I also managed to get a little quilting done.
If you have any young girls around you know how popular the characters from "Frozen" are.
I made these two little quilts for the granddaughters.

My September Benjamin Biggs block all stitched.

Last months Noah and Matilda blocks.

I have also started stitching on the Di Ford Mystery quilt.
I must say I am not loving this one because of the difficulty I am having getting all this broderie perse appliqué   to fit in the space allowed.

Happy stitching,
Nancy
