Lori from Humble Quilts and Randy from Barrister's Block are have a medallion quilt sew along and this is my version of the center block.
This was my first attempt at the block but the vine fabric was just too light to suit me so I changed it and now I think it looks better.
I don't think I am going to make the whole quilt maybe just the center and the first border. I am into making little quilts at the moment and this one will fit on my little quilt wall nicely.
I decided to try machine appliqué on this little block. I really prefer hand appliqué but there is only so much time - anyway as I was stitching along my machine decided it just didn't want to sew anymore. I guess it thinks I work it too hard and has gone on strike. It will turn on but won't stitch. Now I have to decide if I want to invest anymore money in her of just go ahead and buy a new machine. I am not a big fan of change and I have loved this machine but there does come the time when change is needed.

I like the fabric you used for the vase. The fussy cut bow design centers so nicely.
ReplyDeleteAnd I vote for a new machine!
Love the fabrics you are using! The darker vine does look better too.:) Sad about your machine. Hope you can get it figured out soon!
ReplyDeleteme gusta!!! la 2ª versión esta genial

Wow that fussy cut bow on the vase is such a clever touch - love it! I agree with your stem change - nuisance but worth it. It's going to be a lovely quilt.
ReplyDeleteNancy, your block is so pretty! You did a great job of picking out the fabrics and the vase is particularly lovely with the fussy cutting. Glad you don't mind 'unsewing'. So sorry your machine doesn't want to sew anymore - maybe it's time for a new one!
ReplyDeleteAnother gorgeous creation, Nancy!! And I agree - I like the darker stem better, it has more presence!! Sorry to hear about your machine!! Bummer!!
ReplyDeleteOh what pretty blocks. I am new to applique and these make me drool
ReplyDeleteLove it! I'm glad you changed the stems too.
ReplyDeleteHow annoying about your machine. What about a tuneup? Save you some money and get it working.:)
Love the fussy cut vase/vessel. Great use of fabrics!
ReplyDeleteLove this block and especially your basket choice!
ReplyDeleteThis is SO cute. Also love your SP blocks, watching you has kept me engaged in this project, although I haven't started mine yet. I have another week to spend at my dads, I will be prepping some of these blocks to take with me.
ReplyDeleteJust caught this via Lori's linky. Missed it while I was AWOL with visiting daughter. It is beautiful, but how maddening to have the machine give up on you. Have you had trouble with it before? If this is a pattern, I'd vote for a new one. If not, I would give it another chance with a service call. : )
ReplyDeleteOh nicely done :0). Sorry to hear about the machine breaking down....sure it can't be fixed? Sewing machine are pretty simple mechanical tools.
ReplyDeleteHappy Sewing
It looks much nicer with the change in the color of the stem and I'm with the others on that vase too! Great block and yep just bite the bullet and get a new machine.
