Old Voices New Impressions

I haven’t posted an update on my Old Voices New Impressions blocks since July and I am not really sure how many blocks we are supposed to have stitched so I thought I would just post pictures of the ones I have so far.
The blocks stitch up quickly since I have them already prepped .

I  never really cared much for birds in applique until I stitched these but they are so cute who wouldn’t like them.

I am happy with my decision to use batiks for this quilt.  The blocks are turning out so bright and cheery.

All my blocks so far.

Until the next time,
Nancy

  1. Your blocks are so beautiful!! I love the batiks you are using and I never love batiks. I love the rich reds and the greens - especially the green in the first block. Your applique is perfection. I look forward to seeing your next batch of blocks :0)

  2. Fabulous Nancy, as always!! And yes, the batiks are gorgeous as they add so much strong color!! My favorite is the little red bird with the blue wing!! And you have completed those 9 blocks since July?? Plus how many other projects? One day . . .

  4. Each of your blocks are just beautiful Nancy! Your choice of batiks makes them really come alive. Also makes me second guess my choice of CW fabrics.

  5. Wow! The batiks work beautifully. Do you find them harder to use for applique stitching? I don't have one batik in my stash. Love your birds done in batik fabrics.

  6. Stunning blocks, Nancy!
I have the same question as Karen. Aren't the batiks hard to needle? I have used batiks for binding now and then and it has been harder to hand stitch most of the time. I've worked with a few that were softer, but for the most part, I would have thought they would be hard to use for applique. But, my goodness, your blocks are so pretty!

  7. Love your blocks, so pretty. Most of the fabric I use for appliqué is batiks. It's the best. How many more do you have to finish?

  10. Just gorgeous, as always. Isn,t appliqueing the batiks a challenge with their dense thread count?
