Poor Farmers Wife

For the past few days I have been merrily sewing along putting my Farmers Wife quilt together.
Using all these cute little leaves as corner stones.  Then I decided to put it up on the wall and take a picture.  Well, the leaves are falling...I forgot this quilt is - ON POINT-  and when I turned it good grief  all the leaves are leaning to the left.
Looking at my fabric the only way to get them to stand up straight is to cut all the little 1.5 inch squares on the bias with the leaves going sideways and then when the quilt is turned  the leaves would be straight.  Now do I really want to go to all this trouble or just have tipsy leaves?

On a brighter note my package arrived from Kris at The Quilting Garden.  I love the way she wraps her packages and look a little surprise scissors attached for my applique’.  Thanks Kris.

  2. Actually, looking closely at your photo, it looks fine to me. You really can hardly even see that they are leaves. Your blocks look just great and the sashing fabrics are very nice. Can't believe it never occurred to any of us as you were choosing that fabric!

  3. I like the tilted leaves. It is a little reminder that it is hand made.I think you are probably the only person who will even think twice about it. Whoever is snuggling under the quilt won't mind if the leaves tilt.

  4. I know how you feel. You planned a certain design element and then it didn't work out the way you intended. Then you just have to decide, change your idea or change what you've already sewn. Either way, your quilt will be an original.

  5. Your quilt looks beautiful, we are our own worst critic. We see all our little mistakes but no one else does. Because we know it not wht we wanted, it annoys the crap out of us. Your quilt is unique and is perfect and you spent many hours working on it. Love it.

  6. Falling leaves - seems natural to me - perhaps do some in the next pieces with them oriented yet another way?
Either way it is a great quilt!

  7. Leave it as its is. Tilting leaves gives more character. It looks good the way it is.

  8. Hi, Nancy. Personally, I like the slanted leaves better, adds a bit of movement. It'll be a gorgeous quilt, no matter which way they go! LUV your stitched borders in the previous post-wow!

  9. Oh, no, has it been this long since I have been to visit you?? First of all, your leaves are not leaning to the left - they're just swaying in a breeze, a stiff breeze maybe, but still swaying!! I think your quilt is gorgeous!! And I'm glad you loved your package!!
