Beyond the Cherry Trees

I can hardly believe I have finished my Beyond the Cherry Trees quilt top.  I started this quilt on January 24th 2011 so it took me approximately 15 months to complete the top.  I have no idea how I am going to quilt it there are so many little pieces and it is a very large quilt about 100 inches square.  Some of the other ladies are hand quilting theirs but at my age and the rate I hand quilt I don't think that is an option for me.

  4. You've done a beautiful job on this quilt, What about doing a big stitch all around the main applique pieces and then you could do grid lines 1 1/2" - 2" apart also with a big stitch. Fine crochet cotton or perl ctn would work well. Much faster than regular hand quilting. I'm just trimming my blocks today, so far I've only had to move two pieces of applique, some are trimmed to 1/4" of the appliques. Yikes!

  5. Congratulations on your amazing finish! 15 months does not seem like long at all for such a detailed project.

  6. Really really pretty! 15 months is incredible with all the handwork, and 100 inches IS a big quilt to handle. However you decide to quilt it, it's going to be an heirloom!

  7. Hi Nancy,
Your quilt looks great. And 15 months isn't very long for all these blocks as well as those Rose of Sharon Blocks. I'm working on my 18th and final Rose of Sharon block and hope to get the top together next month.

This quilt is beautiful. Congratulations on finishing it.

  9. I think your quilt is beautiful and the very fact that you finished the top in a year (plus many other projects) is amazing! Can't wait to see it quilted!
