Karen has started a new sew a long using the book
Old Voices New Impressions by Jeana Kimball.
The rules are very relaxed. We try to stitch four blocks a month and post at the end of the month.
I decided to make the Cranberry Album Quilt on the back cover of the book. The directions say to enlarge the block patterns 141% to get an 8 inch block and I thought I did but evidently not. After printing all 25 patterns I got the brilliant idea to actually measure one to see if they were 8 inches.
Guess what they were 7 inches. So my blocks will be 7 inches because I am not wasting more time, ink and paper to print them over.
I have been sewing with reproduction fabrics for some time now so I thought I would give a new impression to my quilt and use batiks. Eight 7 inch blocks are prepped and ready to stitch.
The first four blocks are stitched.
It will be fun to stitch along with Karen and everyone else once again.
If you have access to the book feel free to join in.
Sewing with others is always fun.
Sewing with others is always fun.
Until the next time
Nancy
The small small size is sweet!
ReplyDeleteOh, this is going to be so fun in batiks!!
ReplyDeleteLove your new banner...those hexies and the photos are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteNo hay nadie que haga las aplicaciones como tu !!!
ReplyDeleteestán tan bien hechas,
me gustaría ser así de perfecta, pero no lo soy.......
saludos
I really like the fabrics you are using! It makes it much more of a desirable quilt for me IF I were to make it. I have the book - I should try it..........LOL!
ReplyDeleteYour blocks are just lovely Nancy..love that book. hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeletePretty, pretty! I enlarged mine 161% because I wanted larger blocks. I would have to measure but I think mine will be 8 inches or a bit larger. It really doesn't make a difference because the quilt can be whatever size it turns out.
ReplyDeleteI love these little blocks all made up in batiks!
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be such a wonderful quilt!
I like the size of your blocks and how batiks give a more realistic look to the applique designs. It will be fun to follow your journey.
ReplyDeleteSeven inch blocks are going to be perfect! I love the blocks you've prepped-it will be a wonderful quilt!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun new project you have started! The first blocks you made are beautiful already... I look forward to seeing your progressions through this project.
ReplyDeleteThis is looking wonderful! Can't wait to see more with this project.:)
ReplyDeleteYour blocks are beautiful. I love them in batiks. I am doing mine in repros because I bought all of the kits as a block of the month the year the book came out. They even printed the patterns at 8 inches for the kits. I have one done and hope to keep up!
ReplyDeleteLove the new quilt and your new hexie header - very clever!
ReplyDeleteIt's a case of I have that book along with good intentions!:-) your blocks in batiks will be very special. Do you find batiks easy to needle turn? Have wanted to try that but wondered if the fabric thread count would be an issue? Our printer always prints about 1/8" smaller.
ReplyDeleteYour blocks look lovely! What a fun project it will be to watch your progress.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty blocks. I have not seen that book before. It looks interesting, I will have to look for it. I look forward to ssing more of your blocks.
ReplyDeleteHi Nancy! Your blocks are beautiful! They are making me rethink my fabric choices! It looks like I did the same four blocks you did. I thought the first four were the first four on the top row of the quilt.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great sew-a-long! And how beautiful your blocks have become, and alreay quite an amount! I think they are even prettier in 7 inch (😉) and very nice in batiks. I will follow your progress with great interest!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blocks Nancy!
ReplyDeleteI love your fabric choices.
I like your new header. How did you do that?
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love you quote that you have under your picture! Also your blocks are so pretty. I wish I could find a copy of the book - but afraid it is long long long gone!
ReplyDeleteWhere were you able to find the book. I've fallen in love with this pattern, but can't find it anywhere!!
